A benefit featuring the Valerie Orth Band was held at Traditions
Café
on April 12, sponsored by the SSCCC. This social, musical, and informational
event was an opportunity to meet and hear Bay Area musician Valerie
Orth, who combines unique twists of folk, reggae, funk, heavy rock, or
even a little trip-hop. Along with her music, she has a passion for activism
and community involvement. As a grassroots organizer and Sweatfree Campaigns
Organizer at Global Exchange, Valerie organized the community campaign
that led successfully to the City of San Francisco passing a comprehensive
anti-sweatshop purchasing act. She continues this work as Board Chair
for the Sweatfree Advisory group for the city.
Valerie and her band joined with us on Saturday, April 12, as SSSCC
continued its work with the City of Olympia to expand sweatfree purchasing
and for State of Washington sweatfree purchasing.

The successful first annual Anti-Sweatshop Film Fest, sponsored
by SSCCC, began on Monday, November 12 at Traditions Café in Olympia.
Three films (China Blue, A Killer Bargain and Made
in LA) were shown for free on three consecutive Mondays. Those interested
in showing the films can find more about them by downloading
the poster.
